A star is born

When I heard that cStar was designing a Marilyn-skin I got super excited and soon as the demo was available in the mainstore I scooted up there to grab one and designed a Marilyn-shape to use in my photos with it right away. I am a big Marilyn-fan and thoroughly enjoyed creating several looks from different stages in her life but avoiding the most cliché-Marilyn-imitations. And what great coincidence Vintage Fair is going on with tons of new releases fit for a moviestar’s wardrobe. In The Starlet-photo no 1 from left is portraying the rising star Marilyn, the way she looked in the movie “Bus Stop” – fresh out of cheesecake modelling. The dress is a new release from 1 Hundred (Vintage Fair),  in photo no 2 is Marilyn the way she looked when she attended the Lee Strasbourg academy of acting in New York – glasses and casual yet trendy clothes: stripy jumper from Coco (old item) and simple black pencilskirt from Faster Pussycat. “The Diva” is the fullblown moviestar, Marilyn at the top of her carreer adored and copied by the masses – i chose a new red sequin mesh dress from CIA (Vintage Fair) and diamonds from laGyo. Then there is “The Goddess” – Marilyn singing for the president – sporting “Lily” a sexy halterneck dress in gold – a new release from Baiastice (Vintage Fair). In “The Mistfits” Marilyn was cast in casual denim and plaid shirts, I chose a jacket from my inventory from Aoharu and teamed it with one of my own new releases – “Pinup Pants” from Faster Pussycat (Vintage Fair). Below is inspired by what has become known as Marilyn’s “Last Sitting” – a photoshoot she did with photographer Bert Stein commissioned by VOGUE Magazine – wearing nothing but her birthday suit, a selection of scarves and some drops of her favoured perfume Chanel No.5. The shoot  took  place over three daily sessions in late June 1962, just six weeks before she died. I hope this makes a nice tribute to both a legend – and a lovely new cStar skin.

cStar’s “Marilyn” is available now at Fashion Voodoo. It is like so many of cStar’s skins a limited edition skin and the pack also includes a Marilyn shape – only 2 restocks are available. There are 18 different tones to pick from and I am wearing the light tone for my photos. A fatpack option will only be available for the duration of the Fashion Voodoo event and it’s also 50% off. This skin could possibly be a fashionista’s collectible so hurry up and get it now – LM is available in the demo at cStar HQ.

Time for drama

Yea, like….we all say we don’t like drama right? Well, not me! Not when the drama comes in the shape of a gown as divine as this wonderful “Midnight Gown” by the fabulous Joy Fellini of Fellini Couture. The figure hugging lacy halter top clings to your curves like there’s no tomorrow and gives you that seductive hourglass shape that makes peoples jaw drop to the floor….and when you think you just can’t handle anymore hotness – this wonder flares out in the most creative frou frou ruffle skirt adorned with – yes, you see right – clusters of illuminating candelabras! Not only will all eyes be on you, you also bring your own light! Talk about a creation fit for girls who loves the limelight :)

The bodice laces tightly all the way down your back in a transparent panel of lace…that reveals just enough of your bod to make sure people pay attention to ALL of you when you enter and when you leave the room. The astonishing creation comes with a frilly couture hat top top it off in true haute couture style. I have styled it with a dramatic skin from  JeSyLiLO – and do pay attention to the glitter makeup designed by model and super-stylist Avona Ryba. Avona has her own line of makeups now, do go check out her store AVOKI – I guess when one of SL’s top stylists decides to design her own makeup line it’s bound to be something to make the hearts of  glamour girls sing! And the fascinating earrings are “Mohawk”   by one of my fave accessory brands LaGyo. They are colour change to match any mood or outfit. I guess it’s time to go shopping girls?

Culpability

Mea Culpa has been hitting the grid hard, fast, and fashionably.  Tatanka Kaligawa is the designer of these amazing creations.  Avant-garde meets high couture in these designs, in which the boundaries of the norm have been pushed to where they seemingly cease to exist.  This is edgy fashion at its best.

Tatanka’s vision of Carnivale is a glorious explosion of bright and dark hues of quilled plumage combined with sharp metallic accents of silver and gold.

Mercury Seduction appears to be formed of liquid mercury, which  has flowed temporarily into solid pieces framing the face and upper body, along with a lattice patterned bodice accented with breast pieces of unexpected and vibrant colour. Tukinowaguma’s Helena (C) Gold+Accessories Hair is the perfect accent here.

Petals of seemingly liquid metal combine with long spikes of solid mercury that are signatory of Tatanka’s creations.

Lacey Grace, shown here in Black, showcases the juxtaposition of soft lace with hard metal that is the mark of many of Tatanka’s pieces.   The meek of heart need not apply  here.

Dark and light, soft lace and spiked horns; opposites attract and enhance each other in Lacey Grace.

Sierra Morte again brings in elements of dark and light, soft and hard, with a light lacey bodice surrounded by glittered petals of dark fabric, accented with asymmetrical metallic “fringe” originating from an ebony attachment, repeated in the front of the headpiece.

The bottom skirt is a stunning drape of golden lace, finishing the vision of couture contrast.

Mea Culpa’s Out of the Deep shows that Tatanka doesn’t just stick to dark colours.  This is a mermaid’s dream combination of visions of shell, fans, fins, and sharp coral made into a fantastical design of a dress.

The textures and prims are so sublime with just the right amount of glow added to keep the sunlight flowing into the depths.

White Style Disaster is anything but.  From the jeweled headpiece to the metallic accents on the head, upper arm and waist, from the damask patterned lace to the smooth moire sheer silk, this is fashion gone right.

Metallic ribs next to lace frills, Tatanka makes this styling true haute couture.

Mea Culpa’s Crystal Ice is formed of many long and short spikes of ice crystals formed into wearable fashion that is impossibly possible.  From the center brightness to the outer dark ice, this is Tatanka’s outstanding style taken beyond the ordinary wearable fashion ideas.

Of course, no collection is complete without that important occasion attire, and Mea Culpa does not disappoint with the Magical Wedding dress.  Soft lace merges with hard metal, formed into flowers and spiked leaves, with a delicate lace face veil and adorned hat.

Mea Culpa is ready to dress you for any occasion, if you have the bravura to wear it well.  Demand the best, wearable conceptual art, with large doses of neoism, futurism, and even expressionism.  Experience Mea Culpa.
