The Curious Seamstress of GreenWood Designs~Artemis

Today I am honoured to show you Artemis by The Curious Seamstress of GreenWood Designs.
This is a gorgeous soft moss green hued,  satin Victorian evening gown, named Artemis.  The gown is dated about 1898 and is from the very late Victorian period.  It is starting to slide into the sleeker look of the Edwardian era, but there are still some signs of the bustle.  However, this is also a designer gown of the era by a designer I have never before spoken about.  So let us consider M. Jacques Doucet.
This stunning gown is by the famed Victorian French designer, Jacques Doucet.  He was as well known as Charles Worth among the Victorian elite, though few remember him today.  What a truly amazing designer and man!  His family had been in the Paris lingerie and linen business starting in 1816.  He was born in 1853, and in 1871 opened his own salon selling women’s apparel.  Actresses of the late Victorian era particularly enjoyed his work, and he designed many specialized garments for them.
He designed outfits well into the 1920s, though his clothing fell out of favor because he valued dignity and beauty over faddish novelties or practicalities.
As always, the period undergarments come with this gorgeous gown, these in the form of a camel colored, satin, boned corset that leaves the breast bared. The corset has tiny buttons in the front and laces up in back. The dainty little lacy, knee length light moss  green underpants make this perfect from head to toes.
